30 + years ago I was in serious need of an immediate short term loan. I visited numerous Banks and Credit Unions offering my 3 year old low mileage car (worth 4x the loan I requested) as the collateral for my loan. After all, those same bankers had financed it’s original purchase and were making 85% loans everyday on the purchase price of new & used cars; why wouldn’t they lend a fraction of the value against a car that i already paid off and now owned free & clear... It made no sense. That being said, I could not find one bank to lend me the funds I so badly needed. 

I was disappointed. I thought it was unfair.
